Dr Jens Körner

Dr Jens Körner was born in 1976 and studied veterinary medicine from 1997 to 2003 at Andrássy University in Budapest, Hungary, as well as at the University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover. He wrote his doctoral thesis between 2003 and 2005 on stem cells titled ‘Equine peripheral blood-derived progenitors in comparison to bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells’ at the University of Bern. He successfully completed his thesis under the supervision of Professor Ueltschi.

After his traineeship abroad at the Large Animal Clinic of Ontario Veterinary College in Canada, Dr Körner worked as a medical researcher for general surgery and radiology at the Equine Clinic of Freie Universität Berlin from 2006 to 2008. He successfully completed his additional training as a specialised veterinarian for horses in 2009 under Professor Hertsch.

In 2008, Dr Körner became a vet in Rotenburg (Wümme) at the Wiedaugrund Animal Hospital, where he was the manager between 2009 and 2013. Since 1 April 2013, therapy options were expanded to include ophthalmology, so that Dr Körner could manage the equine hospital together with Dr Stephan Leser.

From 2015 to 2017, Dr Körner completed further training in Miami, Florida, to become a US-recognised specialist veterinarian for equine sports medicine. After successfully passing his exams, the American College of Veterinary Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation awarded him the internationally recognised ACVSMR diploma.

At the beginning of March 2019, the equine hospital in Wiedaugrund moved from Rotenburg (Wümme) to Sittensen. The name was then also changed to Hanse Equine Hospital, and the hospital management team was expanded. Since then, Dr Jens Körner has led the hospital together with Dr Stephan Leser and Dr Olivier Brandenberger. As a senior veterinarian, Dr Körner is responsible for orthopaedics, outpatient and mobile clinic departments.
